Wells Travel Guide
Welcome to Wells, ME!
Named for a city in England, Wells is a historic destination, with roots extending back as far as 1622, found on Maine's southern coast. Visitors can learn about the area's past at Laudholm Farm. Built in 1642, the property has only changed hands four times and today features a range of activities including reenactments, festivals, hiking trails and tours of the numerous restored buildings. Because of its close location to the Atlantic Ocean, Wells attracts numerous bird species that can be viewed at the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Preserve and the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve. Sandy beaches are found around the town, providing relaxing spots for picnicking, swimming and sunbathing. Popular activities in the area include fishing excursions, kayaking, touring on charter boats and watching whales, seals and lobster harvests. After a day exploring the Wells area, a fresh seafood meal is an easy find at the many specialty seafood restaurants.
